Damen Song Cam is a joint venture between Damen Shipyards Group (70%) from the Netherlands and Song Cam (30%), part of Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) from Vietnam. The shipyard is located on a 43-hectare plot of land alongside the Cam river and just outside the city center of Haiphong, Vietnam. Damen Song Cam was officially opened on 20 March 2014 and is one of the more recent additions to Damen’s worldwide portfolio of shipyards.
Their mission is to become the world’s biggest workboat factory producing top-quality vessels in the most efficient way against a competitive cost price.

Damen Shipyards Group has been in operation for over ninety years and offers maritime solutions worldwide, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. Damen operates 36 shipyards in 18 countries and offers direct employment to more than 13,000 people.

The company aims to be the most sustainable shipbuilder in the world, via digitalization and standardization of its products. Damen’s main activities are the design and serial construction of innovative ships by integrating diverse components and subsystems into high-quality platforms. Damen is also active in the repair and conversion of existing ships and the sale and production of components for the maritime industry.
High-quality and sustainable maritime group in Vietnam
Within the Damen group, Damen Song Cam is the preferred production location for standard tugs and workboats up to 60 meters long. The yard is renowned for its exceedingly high standards of HSEQ and for state-of-the-art facilities, including a climate-controlled paint shop, and for its production line delivery of high quality, proven vessels.
With the first phase of investment completed, Damen Song Cam is a state-of-the-art, dedicated outfitting shipyard. The hulls are procured from our partner Song Cam and, with the current facilities together with a workforce of approximately 700 employees, Damen Song Cam is able to deliver up to 40 workboats a year.
The facilities at Damen Song Cam’s 43-hectare site have been designed to maximize quality and efficiency. The shipyard also has plans for future investments to double capacity from the current 40 deliveries a year to 80.
In Damen’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report published in July 2019, which also included alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 2 million accident-free man-hours at Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam was stated as one of the concrete achievements.
During the COVID-19 outbreak recently, Damen Song Cam donated rice in the fight against the virus. In particular, on 20th April, Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Hai Phong, Vietnam donated 3,000kg of rice to three hundred families living in the three surrounding communes of Thien Huong, Lam Dong, and Hoang Dong.
